A freestanding display puts a screen where there is no wall to hang one on: beside an entrance, at the end of an aisle, in a foyer or next to a queue. It needs a patch of floor and a power socket, not building work, which makes it one of the simplest ways to start with digital advertising.

Two families sit in this category. Indoor Freestanding Advertising Displays (view the range) offer the widest choice: the range is listed from 21.5 to 96 inch at 350 to 450 nits, on a fixed floor stand or a stand with wheels, with playback from USB media or optional Android or Windows configurations. Full-Screen Digital Posters (view the range) are the large-format alternative, from 64.2 to 80 inch, where the picture fills the front of the unit and several posters can stand side by side to carry one image.

Both are indoor products. Before choosing, decide what the screen has to do for your business, whether that is promoting offers, greeting visitors or carrying paid advertising, and how often the content will change. A single poster that changes monthly can run from USB media. A group of screens across several sites is better served by digital signage content management, which we scope separately from the hardware.

Where they fit

Suitable applications

Typical uses for the products in this category, drawn from the catalogue. The configuration for your site is confirmed with your quotation.
  • Entrance and foyer promotions

Greet people as they arrive with current offers, events or directions, without fixing anything to the building.

  • Restaurant and coffee shop offers

Promote specials, meal deals and seasonal items beside the queue or the door, and change them as the day goes on.

  • Cinema and leisure venue posters

Replace printed poster cases with screens that can rotate several titles, trailers or events in the same floor space.

  • Shopping centre advertising

Run brand campaigns and tenant promotions on large-format posters placed along malls and at junctions.

  • Campaigns and events that move

Choose a stand with wheels where a display needs to move between departments, entrances or events instead of staying in one spot.

Choosing

How the options differ

The decisions that separate one option from another, and what each one depends on.
  1. Step 1

    Digital poster or full-screen poster

Indoor freestanding displays are the general-purpose choice, listed from 21.5 to 96 inch, with slim totem and easel-style designs pictured. Full-screen posters are larger, from 64.2 to 80 inch, with the picture running close to the edges of the unit. They use non-standard formats of 3840 × 1350 and 3840 × 1440 pixels, so artwork is produced specifically for them. See full-screen posters.

  2. Step 2

    Fixed stand or wheels

The indoor freestanding range lists a floor stand or a stand with wheels. A fixed stand suits a permanent position. Wheels suit campaigns and events that move. Stand styles differ between designs, so the option for your chosen size is confirmed with your quotation.

  3. Step 3

    Display only or touch

Touch is an option, not a standard feature. The indoor freestanding range lists infrared, capacitive or touch-foil options, and full-screen posters list infrared or capacitive touch as available. If customers will mainly use the screen to order, search or check in, a purpose-built freestanding kiosk is usually the better fit.

  4. Step 4

    How content is played

The indoor freestanding range lists playback from USB media, with Android or Windows as optional configurations, plus HDMI, USB, memory card and wired network connections. Full-screen posters are listed with an Android configuration and an HDMI input. The platform and connections for your configuration are confirmed with your quotation.

  5. Step 5

    Indoor brightness only

At 350 to 450 nits, and 400 nits for full-screen posters, these displays are intended for positions inside the building. A screen facing the street through glass needs a shop window display, and a screen outside needs an outdoor display.

Questions

Freestanding advertising displays: frequently asked questions

What sizes do freestanding advertising displays come in?

The indoor freestanding range is listed from 21.5 to 96 inch, and full-screen digital posters are listed at 64.2, 65, 68.2, 69.3 and 80 inch. A size range does not mean every size is offered in every stand design, so the sizes available for the design you prefer are confirmed with your quotation.

Can I put a freestanding display in my shop window?

These displays are listed at 350 to 450 nits, which suits positions inside the premises. A screen that faces the street through glass has to compete with daylight, so for that position we would point you to shop window displays, which are listed at 1,000 to 2,500 nits and include floor-standing designs.

Can a freestanding display be moved around the premises?

The indoor freestanding range lists a stand with wheels as well as a fixed floor stand, so a movable display is an option. Think about where the power sockets are, how the cable will be kept out of walkways, and whether the display needs a network connection in each position. Tell us how you expect to use it and we will confirm a suitable stand with your quotation.

Does a freestanding display need an internet connection?

Not always. For a single display whose content changes occasionally, playback from USB media is listed and needs no connection. If you want to schedule content, update several displays at once or manage screens at different sites, an Android or Windows configuration with a network connection is the better route, together with content management that we scope separately. The connection options for your configuration are confirmed with your quotation.

Can the casing match our brand?

The indoor freestanding range lists black as the standard finish, with other colours available as a custom option. Tell us the colour or finish you have in mind when you enquire, and we will confirm what is possible for the selected design. Our design and branding service also covers the artwork that runs on the screen.

Tell us what you need

Describe what the screen needs to do and where it will go. We will recommend the right hardware and software and confirm the configuration in a written quotation.
