Overview

About this range

A freestanding kiosk is an ordering point you can put wherever the queue forms: inside the entrance, along the wall of a food court, beside the counter. Because it stands on its own base it needs no counter space and no wall fixing, and a group of kiosks can take the pressure off the till at busy times.

This is the widest family in the ordering range. Fourteen enclosure styles are pictured, in five broad shapes: slim single-pole stands; portrait heads carried on twin poles, including one with a header sign above the screen; full-height slabs and towers; podium and lectern designs with a landscape screen; and a tower with a light strip down its front edge. Screen references run through 15.6, 21.5, 24, 27 and 32 inch, and each style has its own size options.

A 10-point touchscreen, 80 mm thermal printing, QR code scanning and a card-terminal bracket are stated across the ordering range, with an NFC reader function as an option and cameras, microphones, cash or coin acceptance and card dispensing as custom-build options. These are range-level statements. The pictured styles place their peripherals differently — some have a terminal cradle on the front, some a bracket at the side, some neither — so the fitted configuration is confirmed with your quotation.

Most projects start with the self-service ordering flow rather than the enclosure: what customers order, how they pay, and where the order goes next. We can assess your existing software or scope restaurant ordering software for the project, and order data can feed AI-assisted sales management software scoped around your sales process. Hardware, software and ongoing management are quoted separately.

Installation considerations

Planning the installation

  1. Stand the kiosk on a level, firm floor. Footprint, height and weight are confirmed per style and screen size with your quotation.

  2. Plan power and a network connection at each position, ideally from a floor box or a nearby wall socket, so that no cable crosses a walkway.

  3. Tell us if the kiosk must be fixed to the floor. Several styles are pictured on flat base plates, but fixing provision varies by style and is confirmed with your quotation.

  4. Leave room in front for a short queue and for wheelchair approach, and keep the units clear of fire exits and escape routes.

  5. Allow access to open the enclosure for paper changes and servicing — from the front or the side, depending on the style.

  6. For a row of kiosks, space the units so that customers at neighbouring screens are not shoulder to shoulder.

  7. Check door heights, lifts and the delivery route for the taller tower styles before delivery is booked.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about freestanding ordering kiosks

How do I choose between a pole stand and a full-height tower?

Start with the space and the job. Pole stands and twin-pole heads have a light footprint and keep sight lines open, which suits a row of kiosks near an entrance. Full-height slabs and towers have more internal room and a stronger visual presence. Podium and lectern styles put a landscape screen at a lower, desk-like angle. Tell us about the site and we will help you narrow the options.

Which screen sizes are available?

The freestanding styles are pictured with 15.6, 21.5, 24, 27 and 32 inch screen references. Each style has its own size options: most are pictured in one size, one twin-pole style in 24 and 32 inch, and the slim pole stand is captioned with all five. We confirm the sizes for your chosen style with your quotation.

Is a card terminal included, and will ours fit?

The terminal is not included — it comes from your payment provider. Styles are pictured with a cradle on the front or a bracket at the side, and we assess the fit for your terminal model before quoting. A bracket does not by itself mean a terminal is compatible, and the link between the ordering software and the terminal is part of the agreed integration.

If I add the NFC reader, can customers tap a bank card to pay?

Not through the NFC reader. It reads 13.56 MHz cards and tags, for example loyalty or membership cards, where your software supports them. Contactless bank-card payments are handled by the payment terminal from your payment provider.

Do freestanding kiosks need to be fixed to the floor?

It depends on the style, the floor and the site. Several styles are pictured on flat base plates, and some sites prefer units fixed down in busy public areas. Tell us what you need and we will confirm the fixing provision for your chosen style with your quotation.

Can the kiosks send orders to our kitchen and collection screens?

That is a software question rather than a hardware one. Where we scope the ordering software, the flow from kiosk to kitchen screen or printer and on to a collection screen is designed as part of the project. Where you already have software, we assess what it supports. Either way, the integration is described and quoted separately from the kiosks.

What does the quotation confirm?

The chosen style and screen size, the fitted peripherals and their positions, the operating platform, the dimensions and weight, and the price, lead time, warranty and support terms. Software development and ongoing management are quoted as separate items.
