Displays and kiosks for transport and public spaces

Vehicle displays that run from a DC supply, outdoor screens with stated weather protection, payment kiosks and wayfinding touchscreens. The hardware must suit the environment, and the information on it must stay current.

Information that has to be right

People in stations, on vehicles and in public buildings are usually in a hurry and often somewhere unfamiliar. They need to know where to go and what has changed, at a glance. A sign that is wrong is worse than no sign.

The settings are demanding. A screen at a stop or in a car park faces sun, rain, cold and the occasional knock. A screen on a bus or in a taxi runs from the vehicle's supply and is shaken all day.

The harder part is keeping information current: who publishes changes, how quickly they appear and what a screen shows when its connection drops. That is a content management question to settle before anything is installed.

Example applications

Illustrative examples only. They are not accounts of completed customer projects.
  • Information and advertising on board

For example, ceiling-mounted screens on a bus show route information and local advertising, powered from the vehicle's DC supply.

  • Outdoor screen at a stop, car park or entrance

For example, a high-brightness outdoor display carries maps, notices and advertising at a park-and-ride site.

  • Self-service payment outdoors

For example, an outdoor freestanding kiosk takes payment for parking or tickets, with the card terminal supplied by the operator's payment provider.

  • Wayfinding in a concourse or civic building

For example, a floor-standing touchscreen helps visitors find a platform, department or room, in more than one language.

Hardware families that suit transport and public spaces

Options described for a range are not standard on every model. Sizes, options and ratings are confirmed with your quotation.
  • Bus and taxi advertising displays

Screens from 10.1 to 32 inch for ceiling or pole mounting in vehicles, with a stated DC 8–36 V supply range. Described as dust and shock resistant, though no test standard is cited.

  • Outdoor advertising displays

IP65 protection, operation from −30 °C to 45 °C and 1,500 to 2,500 nits are stated for the outdoor range, and confirmed for the selected model with your quotation.

  • Outdoor freestanding payment kiosks

Outdoor ordering and payment kiosks, described with printer, scanner and payment-terminal bracket options in Android or Windows configurations.

  • All-in-one information kiosks

Indoor touchscreens for wayfinding and information in concourses, libraries and civic buildings, wall-mounted or floor-standing.

  • Stretched bar displays

Wide, shallow screens for above counters and inside vehicles. Stated brightness options are 300 and 700 nits, and no outdoor rating is stated.

Software that would need scoping

Scoped and developed per project, and quoted separately from the hardware.
  • Content management and scheduling

Who publishes service changes, how quickly they must appear, and what is shown if a screen loses its connection.

  • Live data feeds

Showing departures, disruptions or space availability depends on the data your systems or third parties can supply. Each feed is assessed before quoting.

  • Device monitoring

How you would know which screens are online across a fleet or an estate, and who is told when one is not.

  • Wayfinding and payment kiosk software

Maps, routes and languages for wayfinding, or tariffs, receipts and the payment provider link for a payment kiosk.

Questions to be ready to answer

  • Is each position indoors, under cover, fully outdoors or in a vehicle?
  • Outdoors, what are the sun, rain, wind and temperature extremes, and the risk of vandalism?
  • In vehicles, what is the supply voltage, and who will carry out and approve the installation?
  • What connectivity is available at each position: wired, wireless or mobile data?
  • Who publishes information, and how quickly must an urgent change reach every screen?
  • If payment is taken, which payment provider supplies the terminal?
  • What accessibility requirements apply: screen height, contrast, audio, languages?
  • Are permissions needed for fixings, power or advertising on the land or structure?
  • How many screens or vehicles come first, across how many sites?

What this includes — and what it does not

Environmental figures are model-specific

Weather protection, temperature range and high brightness are stated for the outdoor ranges only and confirmed for the selected model with your quotation. They do not apply to indoor displays, vehicle displays or open-frame modules. Solar power and electric vehicle charging are bespoke project options only.

If your vehicles need a specific test standard or approval, tell us and we will establish whether it can be met before you order.

Frequently asked questions

Are the outdoor displays weatherproof?

IP65 protection and an operating range of −30 °C to 45 °C are stated for the outdoor display range. Ratings are model-specific, so we confirm them for the selected model. Siting matters too: direct sun, ventilation and the fixing surface all affect an outdoor screen.

Can vehicle displays run from a bus or taxi electrical supply?

A DC 8–36 V supply range is stated for the bus and taxi display range. Installation must be carried out and approved by whoever is responsible for the vehicle's electrical system.

Can screens show live departure or service information?

Only where a data feed exists and its owner allows its use. We assess each feed as a scoped integration. Where there is none, your staff publish information through the content management software we agree with you.

Tell us about your vehicles, stops or buildings

Describe each position: indoors, outdoors or in a vehicle, with the power and connectivity available. We will suggest suitable families and confirm environmental figures for the selected models with your quotation.
